Staff Nurse Ethel Rose DOUGLAS was a 33 year old from Errard Street Ballarat who joined the Australian Army Nursing Service in Egypt on September 20th 1915.

She had previously spent three years at the Ballarat Base Hospital and had also nursed in New Zealand.

While in Egypt she served at the 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital at Luna Park, Cairo.  In January 1917 she was moved to England, and in February she moved across to France, attached to the 13th Australian General Hospital.  She served there until she was assigned to the nursing staff of the Suevic for a return to Australia in September 1917.  She re-joined the AANS on February 11th 1918 and was allotted to the No. 8 Sea Transport Section. She embarked just two weeks later on February 28th, on the Nestor, and sailed to England, disembarking at Liverpool on April 20th.

She served at the 2nd Australian Auxiliary Hospital until she returned on the Wyreema in late 1918.

She did not marry and died on the 6th September 1971 at the age of 88. She is remembered on the honour board of the Dana Street State School.

Ethel is buried in the Ballarat New Cemetery Private B Section 13 Grave 24
