LYNN, Marianne (Ferres)
Marianne was married to one of the first founding solicitors at Ballarat.
Marianne Ferres married Adam Loftus Lynn on 12th February 1833 at St Mullins Church, County Down, Ireland. They arrived in Sydney on 30th September 1850. The Lynns had ten children. Adam was one of the first solicitors at Ballarat who practiced at the Police Court from the time it first opened. The Lynn's had a tent opposite Martha Clendinning in Ballarat East around 1853. As Adam Lynn was from Wexford, Ireland he joined the elite group of Irish doctors and lawyers who came to Ballarat. From 1859-60 Lynn was President of the Ballarat Hospital. The Lynn Chambers building can still be seen in Lydiard Street.
Assumptions can be made that both women would have had associations at some point. Given the status of Marianne’s husband, one can assume Marianne was both well-informed and engaged as an invisible presence to events of the Eureka Uprising.
