Mrs Alice Mary Pittard (Crocker) was Mayoress of Ballaarat 1926-27 and actively involved in community improvements. She was Founder of the National Council of Women in Ballarat and was one of the first two women elected to the Ballarat Hospital Committee of Management in 1928 with Helen Eva GARDINER.
The two set up maternal women’s and children’s welfare projects and were regarded as female health care pioneers and trail blazers with many women dedicated to healthcare choosing to follow in their footsteps. The Ballarat Hospital Mary-Helen Auxiliary was named in their honour. This group supported the hospital with fund raising for the additional comfort of patients. Alice left a legacy of putting patience care and welfare first. [1927 Mayoral Report, Australiana Collection, City of Ballarat Libraries]
